A patient in psychotherapy may vary in his ability to understand the therapist, and to express this thoughts, as he moves from one state of mind to another. Analysis of states of mind is useful, not only in understanding these variations while the patient is in treatment, but also in helping him to understand his shifting moods in external situations.
接受心理治疗的患者在从一种心理状态转变到另一种心理状态时，理解治疗师以及表达自己想法的能力可能会有所不同。对心理状态的分析不仅有助于在患者接受治疗时理解这些变化，还能帮助他理解自己在外部情境中不断变化的情绪。
