Coverage of soft tissue defects in the upper extremity caused by infection and debridement of infected tissue is a challenging problem. Treatment starts with prompt identification and eradication of infection, including antibiotics and extensive debridement. Options include healing by primary or secondary intention, skin grafts, local flaps, and distant flaps. Negative pressure wound therapy and acellular dermal matrices can also aid in coverage.
