Physicians are often reluctant to broach the subject, and many of these women do not want to reveal their situations. Apart from the injuries incurred in a battering incident, subtle manifestations of an abusive relationship include psychosomatic complaints, stress, anxiety, fear and depression. Suicide may be contemplated or attempted. The children are always affected.
