Uses of lectin for diagnostic differentiation between neoplastic and nonneoplastic diseases and for other purposes in histopathologic investigations (in particular, to gain a better understanding of the pathogenesis of various diseases) are reviewed. Unresolved issues are discussed and prospects for further studies are outlined.
