Asbestos is not the only cause of malignant mesothelioma. An updated review of the literature is presented with reports on mesothelioma with unknown causes (spontaneous cases) in animals and humans and on mesothelioma in man in association with exposure to erionite-zeolite, exposure to ionizing radiation, and chronic inflammation and in animals in association with biological (viral), chemical, physicochemical, and physical agents.
