[Sonographic detection of a cystic tumor originating in the hip joint (bursitis iliopectinea). Contribution to the differential diagnosis of tumors of the hip].

In tumors of the soft parts of the hip area, sonography can contribute decisively to clarify the diagnosis by using the 5 mHz sound head for exploration. In the case reported here it was possible to correct the wrong diagnosis of femoral hernia and to establish the diagnosis of a cystic tumour communicating with the hip joint (iliopectineal bursitis). The diagnosis was confirmed both by operation and by histological examination.
