Abstract

Combination of various compounds and essential oils for pharmaceutical formulations withdraw attention. In this present study, it was aimed to evaluate the potential synergistic antibacterial effect of (spike lavender) essential oil with camphor by using the checkerboard method against the human pathogens; and Pharmacopoeia quality essential oil and racemic camphor were analyzed and verified by GC-FID and GC/MS, simultaneously. antibacterial activity of essential oil and camphor (MIC range: 0.16-20 mg/mL) and standard antimicrobial clarithromycin (MIC range: 0.125-16 μg/mL) were carried out by broth microdilution against and standard strains, respectively. Resulting antibacterial effects were evaluated for their fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs) as antagonistic, additive and synergistic effects. The analytical results showed that the major component of essential oil was linalool (45.2%) and 1,8-cineole (25.6%). Antibacterial effects of essential oil were determined as MIC 1.25-5 mg/mL. As a result of the experiments, essential oil-camphor combinations were identified as "synergistic (FIC ≤ 0.5), and additive (0.5 < FIC ≤ 1)" in the respective combinations, suggesting further evaluation for formulations for potential antimicrobial applications in food and pharmaceuticals.

多种化合物与精油的组合在药物制剂中备受关注。在本研究中,旨在通过棋盘法评估穗花薰衣草精油与樟脑对人类病原体的潜在协同抗菌作用;同时,采用气相色谱 - 氢火焰离子化检测器(GC - FID)和气相色谱 - 质谱联用仪(GC/MS)对药典级质量的精油和外消旋樟脑进行分析和验证。分别通过肉汤微量稀释法对精油和樟脑(最低抑菌浓度范围:0.16 - 20mg/mL)以及标准抗菌药物克拉霉素(最低抑菌浓度范围:0.125 - 16μg/mL)对标准菌株和临床分离菌株进行抗菌活性测试。根据分数抑菌浓度(FIC)评估所得抗菌效果,判断其为拮抗、相加和协同作用。分析结果表明,精油的主要成分是芳樟醇(45.2%)和1,8 - 桉叶素(25.6%)。精油的抗菌效果确定为最低抑菌浓度1.25 - 5mg/mL。实验结果表明,在各自的组合中,精油 - 樟脑组合被确定为“协同(FIC≤0.5)和相加(0.5<FIC≤1)”,这表明需要进一步评估其在食品和药品潜在抗菌应用制剂中的性能。
