Nurses provide consultation in various forms and in many different settings. Paramount to the success of these encounters is the initial relationship established between client and consultant. Although the consultation literature discusses the importance of this initial relationship in terms of successful outcome, very little attention has been given to how this relationship may be established. The author explores the impact of dress on establishing this initial relationship in the consultation process.
