The continuing participation of the AMA in the accreditation of medical education is consistent with the responsibility of the medical profession for the quality of each level of medical education. The Council on Medical Education will continue to monitor and recommend improvements in an essentially sound and effective accreditation system. The ultimate purpose of accreditation is to improve the quality of medical care through education, research, and service. The Council will report further developments as indicated. The Council of Medical Education recommends that the AMA continue its participation in the accreditation of each level of medical education.
