Abstract

The reaction of (LSi:) (; L = PhC(NBu)) with 2 equiv of MeSiCCSiMe resulted in the formation of (MeSiC)(MeSi)CSi(L) (). exhibited a one-electron transfer when treated with 1 equiv of [PhC][B(CF)] to yield [(MeSiC)(MeSi)CSi(L)][B(CF)] () and PhCCPh, respectively. When compound was treated with 2 equiv of AgOSOCF a transfer of two electrons occurred to produce [(MeSiC)(MeSi)CSi(L)]·2[OSOCF] () and elemental silver. The 1,4-disilabenzene is disclosed of an open-shell singlet diradical character, and and are, respectively, the elusive stable radical cation and dication species of the 1,4-disilabenzene (). Furthermore, reacted with group 16 elements of O, S, and Se by oxidative addition to form (MeSiC)(MeSi)CSi(L)(μ-O) () and (MeSiC)(MeSi)CSi(L)(μ-E) (E = S () and Se ()), respectively.
