Both Ca and reactive oxygen species (ROS) are double face entities, acting as signaling messengers or cell fate determinants according to their concentration and to spatial temporal restrictions. Recently, Beretta and colleagues found that ROS generated at ER-mitochondria contact sites (MAMs) support cell survival in stress conditions by decreasing inter-organelle Ca transfer.
