Abstract

BACKGROUND

Plane warts are prevalent cutaneous diseases, caused by different serotypes of human papillomavirus.

AIMS

This study aimed to assess the possible clinical efficacy and tolerability of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of patients with multiple recalcitrant plane warts.

METHODS

This prospective cohort clinical study was carried out on 25 patients with clinical and dermoscopic evident multiple recalcitrant plane warts. The patients were treated with autologous intralesional PRP injections every month until a complete clearance or for a maximum of two sessions. Then, patients were clinically evaluated one month after every session and after a six-month follow-up from the last injection.

RESULTS

Of the included patients, 20 (80%) patients had facial plane warts, 3 (12%) patients had plane warts in the dorsum of hands, and 2 (8%) patients had plane warts in the dorsal aspect of feet. 60% of the patients have more than 100 plane warts, and all the patients had plane warts than 1 cm in size. The complete improvement was observed in 20% and 100% of the patients after the first and second sessions, respectively. No recurrence was detected after a six-month follow-up. No side effects were recorded after the treatment sessions.

CONCLUSION

Intralesional injection of PRP could be potentially effective and well-tolerated immunotherapy for the treatment of multiple recalcitrant plane warts. Whatever, more studies are needed with a larger sample size and a longer period of follow-up. Also, randomized and controlled studies are required to evaluate its efficacy in treating different clinical types of warts.

方法

本前瞻性队列临床研究纳入了 25 例具有临床和皮肤镜下明显多发性顽固性扁平疣的患者。患者每月接受自体皮内 PRP 注射治疗,直至完全清除或最多进行两次治疗。然后,在每次治疗后一个月和最后一次注射后六个月进行临床评估。

结果

纳入的患者中,20 例(80%)患者面部有扁平疣,3 例(12%)患者手部背侧有扁平疣,2 例(8%)患者足部背侧有扁平疣。60%的患者有超过 100 个扁平疣,所有患者的扁平疣大小均超过 1cm。第一次和第二次治疗后,分别有 20%和 100%的患者完全改善。六个月随访后无复发。治疗后无不良反应。

结论

皮内注射 PRP 可能是治疗多发性顽固性扁平疣的一种有效且耐受良好的免疫疗法。然而,需要更多具有更大样本量和更长随访期的研究。还需要随机对照研究来评估其治疗不同临床类型疣的疗效。
