Piracetam was shown to increase tolerance of mice to acute hypobaric hypoxia and acute asphyxia. In Wistar rats the drug induced reorganization of the behavior, increased natural weight gain, transformed the estrous cycle, changed electron transfer through liver mitochondrial membrane, enhanced oxygen-binding properties of hemoglobin.
