The authors assessed the knowledge of obstetric danger signs and its determinants among 405 pregnant women in their 3 trimester receiving antenatal care. The study was cross-sectional. Those knowledgeable of danger signs during pregnancy were 24.9%, labor 29.9%, postpartum 15.6% and in the new-born 36.0%. There were associations between age, higher level of education, gestational age and social class and knowledge of obstetric danger signs. Our findings suggest the need to increase the awareness of obstetric danger signs through provision of information, education, and empower the family.
