The response of granulocytopenic patients with infections to some of the current available antibiotics is suboptimal. Since neutropenia is common during cancer treatment, there is a continual risk of infection in cancer patients; thus it is important for medical oncologists to become aware of these complications and their management. The most frequent types of acute infections, their clinical manifestations, and available antibiotic therapies were reviewed.
