Effects of dietary lycopene supplementation on intestinal morphology, antioxidant capability and inflammatory response in finishing pigs.

Abstract

In this study, eighteen healthy Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire barrows with initial body weight of 63.89 ± 1.15 kg were randomly allotted to three treatments and fed a basal diet or a basal diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg lycopene, respectively. Data showed that villus height to crypt depth ratio increased with 200 mg/kg lycopene ( < 0.05) in the jejunum. In duodenum, the malondialdehyde content was decreased ( < 0.05) in 100 and 200 mg/kg lycopene groups. Furthermore, in the jejunum, dietary 100 and 200 mg/kg lycopene supplementation increased ( < 0.05) catalase activity. In the duodenum, interleukin-1β (IL-1β), nuclear factor-κB and tumor necrosis factor-α contents were decreased ( < 0.05) in 200 mg/kg lycopene group. In the jejunum, IL-1β content was reduced ( < 0.05) and IL-1β mRNA expression was down-regulated ( = 0.046) in 200 mg/kg lycopene group. Additionally, claudin-1 mRNA and protein levels in 200 mg/kg group were also increased ( < 0.05). These results indicated that dietary lycopene supplementation could maintain intestinal health, which was associated with improving intestinal morphology, enhancing tight junction function, inhibiting inflammatory response, and elevating antioxidant capacity in finishing pigs.

本研究选用 18 头初始体重为 63.89±1.15kg 的健康杜长大约克夏三元杂种阉公猪,随机分为 3 个处理组,每组 6 个重复,每个重复 1 头猪。对照组饲喂基础饲粮,试验组分别在基础饲粮中添加 100 和 200mg/kg 番茄红素。结果表明,饲粮中添加 200mg/kg 番茄红素极显著提高了空肠绒毛高度/隐窝深度( < 0.05)。100 和 200mg/kg 番茄红素组十二指肠丙二醛含量极显著降低( < 0.05)。此外,100 和 200mg/kg 番茄红素组空肠过氧化氢酶活性极显著提高( < 0.05)。饲粮添加 200mg/kg 番茄红素极显著降低了十二指肠中白细胞介素-1β(IL-1β)、核因子-κB 和肿瘤坏死因子-α含量( < 0.05)。200mg/kg 番茄红素组空肠 IL-1β含量极显著降低( < 0.05),IL-1βmRNA 表达极显著下调( = 0.046)。200mg/kg 组空肠 Claudin-1 mRNA 和蛋白表达水平也极显著提高( < 0.05)。综上所述,饲粮添加番茄红素能够维持肠道健康,其机制可能与改善肠道形态、增强紧密连接功能、抑制炎症反应和提高抗氧化能力有关。
