Vitamin B12 deficiency can be seen in the cases with sleeve gastrectomy. Because the chief factor in vitamin B12 deficiency is gastric atrophy, we aimed to evaluate the effect of atrophy on postoperative vitamin B12 levels in patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy.
Sixty patients were included in this study. Vitamin B12 levels were compared with presence of atrophy before the operation and after vitamin B12 supplementation.
Atrophy was observed in 37 (61.7%) of the cases; 23 (38.3%) patients had no atrophy. There was a statistically significant difference between the presence of atrophy and vitamin B12 levels (p = 0.024). Despite vitamin B12 support, there were statistically significant low vitamin B12 levels after the operation in female patients having atrophy (p = 0.023). The same significance was not observed in males (p = 0.480).
Vitamin B12 deficiency following obesity surgery is a condition that must be monitored and prevented. We found that histopathologically confirmed atrophy had an adverse effect on postoperative vitamin B12 levels. These findings can be a guide for the clinicians in the management of these cases.
袖状胃切除术后可出现维生素 B12 缺乏。由于维生素 B12 缺乏的主要因素是胃萎缩，我们旨在评估胃萎缩对袖状胃切除术后维生素 B12 水平的影响。
本研究纳入了 60 例患者。比较了维生素 B12 水平与术前和维生素 B12 补充后的萎缩情况。
37 例（61.7%）患者存在萎缩；23 例（38.3%）患者无萎缩。萎缩的存在与维生素 B12 水平之间存在统计学显著差异（p = 0.024）。尽管给予了维生素 B12 支持，但在存在萎缩的女性患者术后维生素 B12 水平明显降低（p = 0.023）。在男性中未观察到统计学意义（p = 0.480）。
肥胖症手术后维生素 B12 缺乏是一种必须监测和预防的情况。我们发现组织病理学证实的萎缩对术后维生素 B12 水平有不良影响。这些发现可以为临床医生管理这些病例提供指导。
