The application of performance appraisal systems to personnel administration represents an important development in health care administration. As health care administrators seek to more effectively manage their resources, performance appraisal systems offer the opportunity to reward and improve productivity by identifying behavioral performance criteria and relating them to promotion, retention, and evaluation systems.
