Investigations of 89 hamartomas of the lung showed that those located in the middle lobe were earlier treated surgically than those located in other regions of the lung. Based on the differences between means of the size of the hamartomas and of the age at the time of surgical intervention, it could be calculated that typical hamartomas have a doubling time of their diameter of about 14 years.
