Stomitis due to non absorbable sutures is an increasingly common endoscopic finding. Personal experience has shown that this complication is not encountered when catgut sutures are employed in stomach operations. It is therefore recommmended that this or other absorbable material be used in gastric surgery. Stress is placed on the need to make use of absorbable threads for both inside and external sutures, since inflammation may be observed in the anastomosis even in cases where catgut is used fro mucosa-mucosa stitches and nonabsorbable material for serosaserosa sutures.
