Abstract

Learners' attitudes are important for language learning. The attitude toward behavior construct, established in social psychology, was selected to elicit and examine learners' attitudes toward face-to-face and online language learning. Data were collected using two instruments-questionnaires and interviews with two groups: face-to-face ( = 681) and online language learning ( = 287). The results show that the attitude toward behavior concept is an effective theoretical framework for designing questionnaires to understand the factors that influence the participants' attitudes and to predict these in different learning environments. I compared the two groups' results and found a more positive attitude toward language learning in face-to-face environments than in online language learning settings. The mixed-method design enables us to assess learners' attitudes to the language learning environment. This informs curriculum design, policy, and support for teaching and learning.

学习者的态度对语言学习很重要。本研究选取了社会心理学中确立的行为态度结构,以引出并考察学习者对面对面和在线语言学习的态度。研究使用了两种工具——问卷和访谈,收集了两组数据:面对面学习组(n = 681)和在线语言学习组(n = 287)。结果表明,行为态度概念是设计问卷的有效理论框架,有助于理解影响参与者态度的因素,并预测不同学习环境下的态度。我比较了两组结果,发现与在线语言学习环境相比,学习者在面对面学习环境中对语言学习的态度更为积极。混合方法设计使我们能够评估学习者对语言学习环境的态度。这为课程设计、政策制定以及教学与学习支持提供了参考依据。
