[Decentralization--a social psychiatric key idea: experiences at the St. Gallen Canton].

In the St. Gallen county community care was not only organised in a decentralized way but also was anchored regionally by political means. Regional societies and community politicians are responsible for organizing and funding community care. After 17 years of experience, some of the consequences of this direct political influence on community care are reported.
