Cross-sectional imaging techniques, including computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, have become increasingly important in the evaluation of a variety of podiatric disorders. Illustrative cases are used to emphasize the relative merits of the two methods. Generally, magnetic resonance imaging is superior for soft tissue and bone marrow disease, whereas computed tomography affords optional depiction of cortical bone abnormalities.
