Targeted radionuclide therapy using Auger electrons is a promising strategy in cancer treatment. A DNA-binding Hoechst-tagged radioiodinated BODIPY derivative ([I]BH) has been prepared as an Auger therapeutic agent. [I]BH showed high accumulation in the nucleus of HeLa cells and cytotoxicity caused by DNA double-strand breaks.
