Abstract
We present a literature review and the description of Wernicke's encephalopathy in a patient who developed neurologic symptoms 2 months after gastric partitioning for morbid obesity. After a prolonged incapacitating illness, autopsy confirmed the diagnosis. We identify characteristic features of the association and discuss possible pathophysiology.
