BACKGROUND
Elsberg syndrome (ES) is an acute-onset lumbosacral radiculitis with myelitis caused by a herpes virus infection.
CASE PRESENTATION
We present a case of a 77-year-old woman who was admitted with urinary retention prior to genital rash. The patient was diagnosed with ES and treated with intravenous acyclovir 250 mg every 8 h for 1 week.
CONCLUSION
Physicians should consider ES in patients with voiding dysfunction, as preceding neurological symptoms may lead to a misdiagnosis. Considering the adverse effects of the antiviral drug, its dosage should be according to the causative virus of the ES as well as the patient's age and medical history.

埃尔斯伯格综合征（ES）是一种由疱疹病毒感染引起的急性起病的腰骶神经根炎伴脊髓炎。
病例报告
我们报告一例77岁女性患者，该患者在出现生殖器皮疹之前因尿潴留入院。该患者被诊断为埃尔斯伯格综合征，并接受静脉注射阿昔洛韦治疗，每8小时250毫克，持续1周。
结论
对于有排尿功能障碍的患者，医生应考虑埃尔斯伯格综合征，因为先前的神经症状可能导致误诊。考虑到抗病毒药物的不良反应，其剂量应根据埃尔斯伯格综合征的致病病毒以及患者的年龄和病史来确定。
