Herein, an efficient, scalable, and concise approach to an advanced pyrroloiminoquinone synthetic intermediate () by way of a Larock indole synthesis is reported. The synthetic utility of this intermediate is demonstrated by its ready conversion to makaluvamines A () and K ().
