Abstract
The diagnostic value of CT in tumours of the pharynx is limited due to the reduced soft tissue contrast of this method. In the present study we report on our own experience with MR imaging of this area. We could demonstrate that MR possesses an increasing importance in the diagnosis of tumours of the head and neck. This is mainly due to the better soft tissue contrast which can even be improved by using the paramagnetic contrast medium Gd-DTPA in certain cases.
