Tumors of the foot in children are rare. However, we can expect practically all kinds of tumors also to occur in children's feet and, strangely enough, particularly rare tumor forms are found quite frequently in the foot. In osseous tumors, this pertains to chondroblastoma, chondromyxoid fibroma, and Ewing's sarcoma. A good half of osseous tumors occur in the vicinity of joints, and a fifth is related to a epiphyseal line area. The prognosis of osseous tumors is somewhat better than in the rest of the skeleton, probably because they can be diagnosed relatively early, but malignant tumors (Ewing's sarcoma) often retain their fatal course. In soft issue tumors, the following should be taken into consideration: malignant synovialoma, fibrosarcoma, hemangioma, lipoma, giant cell tumors, and fibromatosis.
