The authors present the case of a 15-year-old girl who was treated for a fulminant meningococcaemia with all the risk factors. After recovery from the acute phase, the disseminated purpuric spots progressed to deep skin and subcutaneous necrosis, requiring excision and skin grafts. Treatment of such lesions is known to be difficult and prone to failure. It appears that the chances of successful skin grafts are enhanced by delaying surgery until the bed of the lesions shows revascularisation and soft tissue defects filing.
