Abstract

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The digital impression is a promising technique in prosthodontic treatment. However, the influencing factors of patient comfort is lacking, and the evidence of crown quality is mostly based on in vitro studies. The purpose of this double-blinded clinical trial was to compare the patient satisfaction and crown accuracy of two different intraoral scanners (IOSs) for the fabrication of all-ceramic single crowns (SCs).

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Participants in need of posterior tooth-supported SCs were enrolled. Each patient received quadrant scan by both the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) IOS and Carestream CS3500 in a random sequence. After scanning, participants had to fill in a 6-item perception questionnaire that based on 5-point Likert scale for two IOSs. Both data were sent to a dental laboratory to fabricate the monolithic lithium disilicate SCs. The crown accuracy including marginal fit, proximal contact, occlusal contact, and general satisfaction were accessed based on 5-point scale.

RESULTS

A total of 15 participants with 40 crowns (20 SCs in each group) were investigated. Regarding to patient satisfaction, there was no statistically significant difference in total score between MIRDC and Carestream IOSs (23.6 ± 3.79 vs 23.1 ± 4.28,  = 0.36). In terms of crown accuracy, there was significantly different in total score and all the evaluated parameters between MIRDC and Carestream groups (6.1 ± 1.41 vs 13.3 ± 3.75,  < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

Both MIRDC and Carestream IOSs can provide good patient satisfaction during intraoral scanning. The Carestream IOS obtains better accuracy for the fabrication of all-ceramic SCs.

背景/目的:数字印模是口腔修复治疗中一种很有前景的技术。然而,目前缺乏关于患者舒适度的影响因素的研究,且全瓷冠质量的证据大多基于体外研究。本双盲临床试验的目的是比较两种不同的口腔内扫描仪(IOS)用于制作全瓷单冠(SC)时的患者满意度和冠的精度。

材料与方法

招募需要后牙支持的单冠修复的参与者。每位患者以随机顺序分别接受金属工业研究与发展中心(MIRDC)IOS和Carestream CS3500对一个象限的扫描。扫描后,参与者需填写一份基于5级李克特量表的针对两种IOS的6项感知问卷。两份数据均发送至牙科实验室制作整块式二硅酸锂单冠。基于5分制评估冠的精度,包括边缘适合性、邻面接触、咬合接触和总体满意度。

结果

共调查了15名参与者的40个冠(每组20个单冠)。关于患者满意度,MIRDC和Carestream IOS的总分在统计学上无显著差异(23.6±3.79对23.1±4.28,P = 0.36)。在冠的精度方面,MIRDC组和Carestream组的总分及所有评估参数均有显著差异(6.1±1.41对13.3±3.75,P<0.001)。

结论

MIRDC和Carestream IOS在口腔内扫描过程中均能使患者获得较高满意度。Carestream IOS在制作全瓷单冠时精度更高。
