Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy.

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP) is a distinct dermatosis characterized by onset in the third trimester. Lesions generally begin on the abdomen, particularly in the striae distensae. Primigravidas are disproportionately affected by this dermatosis. There is no associated fetal or maternal morbidity. Etiology and pathogenesis are unknown. The natural history is one of spontaneous resolution, and most patients respond well to symptomatic treatment with topical corticosteroids.
