Seventy-nine pregnant diabetic women were put under intensified obstetric observation during pregnancy with the aim of achieving normoglycemia. The prevalence and development of diabetic retinopathy were evaluated in 28 of these diabetic women and compared with a control group of 26 diabetic men. The present paper communicates the fundus changes, classified according to the stages of diabetic retinopathy, and their development in the two groups.
