Abstract

OBJECTIVES

To explore the effects of online mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) on the anxiety and depression status, and quality of life in the caregivers of patients with severe mental disorders.

METHODS

Ninety-three caregivers for patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, who were hospitalized in Yunnan Provincial Mental Hospital in March 2021, were enrolled and randomly divided into control group (=47) and MBSR intervention group (=46). Both groups received basic health education and rehabilitation skill training, while the intervention group received additional online MBSR for 8 weeks. The anxiety and depression status, and the quality of life of the caregivers were evaluated by Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) before and 8 weeks after intervention, respectively.

RESULTS

Thirteen caregivers dropped out of the study, and 80 subjects (40 in each group) were included in the final analysis. At the baseline, there were no significant differences in SAS, SDS and SF-36 scores between two groups (all >0.05). Compared with the baseline, SAS and SDS scores in the intervention group significantly decreased after 8 weeks of intervention (both <0.01) and were significantly lower than those in the control group (both <0.01). There were no significant changes in the control group (all >0.05). Except the physiological function dimension, the total score and the scores of each dimension of SF-36 in the intervention group were significantly increased after 8-week intervention (all <0.05), and were significantly higher than those in the control group (all <0.01). There were no significant changes in the control group before and after intervention (all >0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

Online MBSR can reduce the anxiety and depression levels, improve the quality of life in the caregivers of patients with severe mental disorders.

目的

探讨在线正念减压(MBSR)对严重精神障碍患者照顾者焦虑和抑郁状态及生活质量的影响。

方法

2021 年 3 月,招募了 93 名在云南省精神卫生中心住院的精神分裂症或双相障碍患者的照顾者,将他们随机分为对照组(n=47)和 MBSR 干预组(n=46)。两组均接受基础健康教育和康复技能训练,而干预组在此基础上额外接受为期 8 周的在线 MBSR。分别于干预前和干预 8 周后采用焦虑自评量表(SAS)、抑郁自评量表(SDS)和健康调查简表(SF-36)评估照顾者的焦虑和抑郁状态及生活质量。

结果

13 名照顾者退出研究,最终 80 名受试者(每组 40 名)纳入最终分析。基线时,两组 SAS、SDS 和 SF-36 评分均无显著差异(均>0.05)。与基线相比,干预组干预 8 周后 SAS 和 SDS 评分显著下降(均<0.01),且显著低于对照组(均<0.01)。对照组无显著变化(均>0.05)。除生理功能维度外,干预组干预 8 周后 SF-36 总分及各维度评分均显著升高(均<0.05),且显著高于对照组(均<0.01)。对照组干预前后均无显著变化(均>0.05)。

结论

在线 MBSR 可降低严重精神障碍患者照顾者的焦虑和抑郁水平,提高其生活质量。
