Effect of intravenous fat emulsion on natural killer cellular function and antibody-dependent cell cytotoxicity.

Natural killer cell activity and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity were measured in 12 surgical patients before and after a 24-h infusion of 1 litre of 20 per cent Intralipid. A further 12 patients received an equivalent amount of physiological saline and acted as controls. Neither Intralipid nor physiological saline had any effect upon natural killer cell activity or antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity under the conditions of this study.
