An important phase of behavior analytic services is the end of the consumer-provider relationship, referred to here as termination of services (TOS). TOS is a process in which nearly all applied behavior analytic providers will be involved, and ethical guidelines regarding TOS are included prominently in the Behavior Analyst Certification Board's . TOS can affect stakeholder perceptions of behavior analytic treatment, post-TOS consumer quality of life, and in some cases have serious professional and/or legal consequences. We surveyed behavior analytic practitioners to assess the perceived importance of and competence in TOS, their training with respect to TOS, and the current state of TOS practices. This revealed that practitioners recognize the importance of TOS and their ethical responsibilities, but also that more training should occur in this domain, especially in training settings before entering practice. To guide this training, recommendations are made for TOS activities that should occur across the phases of treatment. Several areas in which research on TOS could help refine practices are described.
