Qualitative study on mental health screening needs of pregnant women in primary health care.

Mental health is currently a global problem in all age groups. the prevalence of mental disorders have not been described, especially pregnant women. This study aims to explore information about the need for screening and mental services provided in health centers and their recordings. This qualitative research was conducted with a phenomenological approach. This research was conducted at Gajahan, Kratonan, Penumping, Gilingan, and Sangkrah Health Centers. The main informants were midwives. Triangulation informants were 15 pregnant women, head of the health center and mental health workers. Data were collected through focus group discussions (FGD) and in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis supported by Atlantis software. This study found three main themes, namely:•The need for mental health screening for pregnant women, the implementation of mental health screening for pregnant women and related to reporting of mental health screening for pregnant women.•Mental health screening for pregnant women in health centers is a very important activity and must be a priority to detect and prevent mental disorders in pregnant women.•A policy is needed as a basis for implementing mental health screening for pregnant women with special recording and reporting.
