Patients with chronic ischemic heart disease showed absolute hypercalcitoninemia combined with normal levels of the parathyroid hormone. The unbalance between calcitrophic hormones is not associated with a history of myocardial infarction. Hypercalcitoninemia was the most pronounced in patients with cardiac rhythm disorders and a simultaneous reduction in total serum calcium.
