Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce (P. odoratum) is a perennial regions of Eurasia. As a traditional Chinese medicine of nourishing Yin and moistening dryness, it has a long history and has been widely used in the food and cosmetics industries. Since 1984, the research of P. odoratum has increased year by year, which has attracted the attention of scholars around the world. Except for a review in the food fields, there is no systematic and comprehensive summary. Using "Polygonatum odoratum" and "Yuzhu" (Chinese name as the search terms, this paper collected 80 articles closely related to P. odoratum from 1984 to 2025 in the international authoritative database (Springer, Web of Science, PubMed, ACS publications, ScienceDirect) and gave a systematic and comprehensive review of botany, chemistry, bioactivity, and application of P. odoratum. Botany includes plant distribution and botanical identification. One hundred and seventy-four chemical components are mainly divided into polysaccharides, flavonoids, saponins, and others; content determination involves ten monomeric compounds. The activity includes antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, antifungal, and antiviral aspects. The application covers two aspects: food and medicine. It is expected that this paper can provide prospective scientific thinking and literature support for the further modern research, development, and utilization of P. odoratum.
玉竹(Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce)是一种多年生植物,分布于欧亚大陆地区。作为一种传统的滋阴润燥中药材,其历史悠久,已广泛应用于食品和化妆品行业。自1984年以来,对玉竹的研究逐年增加,引起了世界各地学者的关注。除了食品领域的一篇综述外,尚无系统全面的总结。本文以“Polygonatum odoratum”和“玉竹”(中文名)为检索词,在国际权威数据库(Springer、Web of Science、PubMed、ACS出版物、ScienceDirect)中收集了1984年至2025年与玉竹密切相关的80篇文章,并对玉竹的植物学、化学、生物活性和应用进行了系统全面的综述。植物学包括植物分布和植物鉴定。174种化学成分主要分为多糖、黄酮类、皂苷类等;含量测定涉及10种单体化合物。活性包括抗氧化、抗肿瘤、抗糖尿病、抗炎、免疫调节、抗真菌和抗病毒等方面。应用涵盖食品和医药两个方面。期望本文能为玉竹的进一步现代研究、开发和利用提供前瞻性的科学思路和文献支持。
