The burden of caring for psychiatric patients leads to experiencing high levels of stress in family caregivers, which affects various aspects of their mental and social health. Evidence shows problems in this area, especially in terms of perceived stress and impaired social health, and thus, the need to implement relevant health promotion programs for chronic psychiatric patients. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of the mental health literacy promotion program on the perceived stress and social health of family caregivers of chronic psychiatric patients.
This is a clinical trial study with a two-group pre-test-post-test design. Sixty family caregivers of chronic psychiatric patients were randomly divided into two intervention (30 people) and control (30 people) groups. Data collection was performed using demographic characteristics questionnaire, Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale, and Keyes Social Health Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance for between-group comparison of dependent variables.
There was no significant difference between the mean scores of perceived stress and social health before the intervention ( > 0.05). The mean scores of perceived stress and social health in the intervention group were significantly better than the control group immediately and 1 month after the intervention ( value < 0.001).
Considering the support of the findings of the present study to reduce the perceived stress and increase the social health of family caregivers of patients with chronic psychiatric disorders through the promotion of mental health literacy, it is suggested to reduce the problems caused by the burden of care such as stress, improve social interactions, and reduce perceived social stigma in family caregivers of psychiatric patients by using this program.
照顾精神科患者的负担会导致家庭照顾者承受高水平的压力,这会影响他们心理和社会健康的各个方面。有证据表明该领域存在问题,尤其是在感知压力和社会健康受损方面,因此,有必要为慢性精神科患者实施相关的健康促进项目。本研究旨在调查心理健康素养促进项目对慢性精神科患者家庭照顾者的感知压力和社会健康的有效性。
这是一项采用两组前后测设计的临床试验研究。60名慢性精神科患者的家庭照顾者被随机分为两个干预组(30人)和对照组(30人)。使用人口统计学特征问卷、科恩感知压力量表和凯斯社会健康问卷进行数据收集。使用协方差分析对因变量进行组间比较来分析数据。
干预前感知压力和社会健康的平均得分之间无显著差异(>0.05)。干预组的感知压力和社会健康平均得分在干预后即刻和1个月时均显著优于对照组(值<0.001)。
考虑到本研究结果支持通过促进心理健康素养来减轻慢性精神疾病患者家庭照顾者的感知压力并提高其社会健康,建议通过使用该项目来减少照顾负担所带来的压力等问题,改善社会互动,并减少精神科患者家庭照顾者的感知社会耻辱感。
