Abstract

BACKGROUND

The incidence of non-puerperal mastitis (NPM) is increasing but treatment is not consistent, and relapse is common.

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the clinical effect of ultrasound-guided microwave ablation in the treatment of NPM.

METHODS

We retrospectively analysed the data of 60 patients with NPM who had undergone microwave ablation treatment at the Nantong University Affiliated Hospital from September 2020 to June 2022. Among them, 20 (33.3%) opted for outpatient treatment, and 40 (66.7%) were treated as inpatients. The mean age of the patients was 34 ± 8.74 years. The duration of follow-up was 6-18 (median: 9) months. Follow-up parameters included time to remission of acute clinical symptoms, breast ultrasonography findings, breast skin appearance and beauty scores, patient satisfaction, adverse events, and recurrence rates.

RESULTS

All 60 patients were successfully treated with microwave ablation. During the follow-up, ultrasound showed that the average maximum diameter of the lesions gradually decreased while the echogenicity of the lesions gradually increased. The time to clinical relief from acute symptoms was 10.78 ± 8.86 days. The cure rate was 93.3% (56/60), and the improvement rate was 6.7% (4/60). The breast appearance beauty score was 8.45 ± 1.17, the patient satisfaction rate was 93.3% (56/60), the incidence of adverse events was 31.7% (19/60), and the recurrence rate was 1.67% (1/60).

CONCLUSION

Microwave ablation is a direct and effective method for the treatment of NPM, with significant curative effects, less trauma, quick recovery, high patient satisfaction, and low recurrence rate. Thus, it provides clinicians with a new option to treat NPM.

非产褥期乳腺炎(NPM)的发病率正在上升,但治疗方法并不统一,且复发很常见。

目的

探讨超声引导下微波消融治疗NPM的临床效果。

方法

回顾性分析2020年9月至2022年6月在南通大学附属医院接受微波消融治疗的60例NPM患者的数据。其中,20例(33.3%)选择门诊治疗,40例(66.7%)住院治疗。患者的平均年龄为34±8.74岁。随访时间为6 - 18个月(中位数:9个月)。随访参数包括急性临床症状缓解时间、乳房超声检查结果、乳房皮肤外观和美观评分、患者满意度、不良事件及复发率。

结果

60例患者均成功接受微波消融治疗。随访期间,超声显示病变平均最大直径逐渐减小,病变回声逐渐增强。急性症状临床缓解时间为10.78±8.86天。治愈率为93.3%(56/60),好转率为6.7%(4/60)。乳房外观美观评分为8.45±1.17,患者满意率为93.3%(56/60),不良事件发生率为31.7%(19/60),复发率为1.67%(1/60)。

结论
