Ectopic spleen, malaria, torsion. A case report. Ectopy of the spleen is rare and the diagnosis remains difficult. Its clinical expression is caused by torsion of the vascular pedicle. The diagnosis is made incidentally during exploratory laparotomy. Such a case is presented. We suggest that torsion of the splenic vascular pedicle was caused by rotation of a very large, malaria infested spleen. The only therapy is splenectomy.
