ST segment and T wave changes are the most common ECG abnormalities. Interpretation must be correlated with other clinical and laboratory information to avoid overestimating or underestimating their significance. Classic causes include left ventricular hypertrophy, digitalis glycosides, and ischemic heart disease. Notched or bifid T waves have been reported in a variety of syndromes. In the geriatric population, they are most commonly associated with psychoactive drugs or CNS disorders.
