[Antibiotics and dermatologic procedures].

Surgical site infections can occur after any dermatosurgical procedure and lead to increased morbidity and mortality. To minimize the risk, perioperative administration of antibiotics may be advisable if correctly indicated. The German Society for Dermatosurgery has issued current recommendations for this. Criteria such as the type of procedure, location, contamination of the surgical site, and patient-specific risk factors all play a role. Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis should ideally be administered 30-60 min before the surgical procedure and can be administered orally or intravenously.
