Abstract

Discoid lateral meniscus is the most prevalent anatomical variant in the Asian population, with the posterolateral corner loss type being the second most prevalent tear pattern. This tear typically affects the posterior horn and midbody of the lateral meniscus, often necessitating subtotal meniscectomy. However, long-term follow-up indicates a high incidence of early degenerative changes after such procedures. Recent advancements in arthroscopic techniques provide opportunities to reconstruct the meniscus, restoring its normal morphology and function. Here, we describe the arthroscopic marginalization technique, which allows for complete repair of the posterolateral corner loss-type discoid lateral meniscus using the thickened central portion that would otherwise be removed during subtotal meniscectomy.
