The flexor tendons in the region of the palm obtain their blood supply from an arterial network in the peritenon, which is fed by the superficial palmar arch and its branches. Rarely this network is supplied by the deep palmar arch. The origin, course and number of the arterial branches supplying the flexor tendons are described in detail. At least one of these nutrient arteries must be preserved in flexor tendon surgery. An adequate arterial supply of the tendons in the digital sheath can only be ensured by preserving all vincula tendinum.
