Six years ago, three teaching hospitals in Canada's fastest growing metropolitan area decided to pool their resources, share facilities and staff to develop a patient education program for the diabetic and his family that would emphasize preventive aspects of medicine and ambulatory care. The venture has paid off handsomely in terms of well informed, highly motivated patients and more effective utilization of costly hospital facilities.
