Abstract

The family Suidasiidae Hughes (Acari: Sarcoptiformes: Acaroidea) comprises a small but ecologically diverse group of mites. The genus is currently monotypic, containing only the species Ranganath & ChannaBasavanna. Although this genus exhibits a wide geographic distribution, ontogenetic research into it remains scarce. This study describes a new species, sp. nov., found in domestic poultry in the Netherlands and comprehensively presents the morphological changes across all known life stages, including the adult female, male, tritonymph, protonymph, larva, and egg stages. By documenting the developmental changes and setal patterns throughout ontogeny, this study addresses a significant gap in the understanding of suidasiid mite development.
