Pneumonia resulted when a porcine entero-virus, ECPO-6, was inoculated intranasally into four and six week old, colostrum deprived, specific pathogen free piglets. Clinical signs consisted of mild depression, rapid breathing with rectal temperatures reaching 104-105 F five to six days after infection. Pneumonic lesions, both gross and microscopic were present 21 days post infection. Although the virus was readily isolated from the cecal contents of infected pigs three weeks after infection the virus was not recovered from infected lungs after the first 7-10 days.
