Sixty-four normal people were studied in respect of the ability of their lymphocytes to transform when cultured with phytohaemagglutinin. The lymphocytes from younger people often showed depressed responses. The defect was more marked in females than in males. Responses to poliomyelitis antigen appeared not to be concomitantly depressed. The possible implications of these findings are discussed.
